A well-known UK manufacturer of marine equipment, Petters were originally involved in small agricultural engine manufacture, and had a very large business based in Yeovil making engines and other machinery. A tie-up with Vickers started them on the larger marine hot-bulb engines, the first 18 hp marine diesel being produced in 1915.
In addition to the larger engines, a smaller range of hot-bulb engines was manufactured for general use on land, and Petters evolved a long line of engines based on the two-stroke principle.
